Liquid Penetrant Testing & Inspection
Detect What the Eye Can’t See—Without Damaging Your Equipment
Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) is a widely used non-destructive examination method for revealing even the finest surface flaws—such as cracks, porosity, and seams—on metal and non-metal parts. This process uses highly sensitive fluids to seep into surface defects that can’t be seen with the naked eye. After excess fluid is removed, any remaining penetrant seeps back out of flaws, producing a visible indication and allowing for precise, reliable detection.
Our technicians employ several penetrant types—solvent-removable, water-washable, and post-emulsifiable—to suit your materials and application. The process works efficiently on large batches of parts, as well as those with complex shapes, at a lower cost than many other NDT methods. Unlike most inspection options, liquid penetrant testing can be performed on a wide range of materials: metallic and non-metallic, magnetic and non-magnetic, and both conductive and non-conductive.
However, it’s important to note that liquid penetrant testing is not recommended for porous materials.
Stop defects before they cause costly downtime. Trust Hercules Crane and Lifting Supplies for efficient liquid penetrant inspection, performed wherever and whenever you need it.
Detailed Non-Destructive Testing Services We Offer
Liquid Penetrant Testing
Identifies surface-breaking defects in metals, plastics, and ceramics by applying a visible or fluorescent dye to the material.
Magnetic Particle Testing
Detects surface and near-surface cracks or discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials using magnetic fields and iron particles.
Ultrasonic Testing
Uses high-frequency sound waves to locate internal flaws, measure material thickness, and assess weld integrity.
