Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common queries about our rigging inspection and certification services.

A rigging inspection involves a thorough visual examination performed by a qualified user or designated person before each use (daily) and a more comprehensive periodic inspection (at least annually) by a designated, competent person. The goal is to identify any conditions or defects in rigging hardware (slings, shackles, hooks, etc.) that could constitute a hazard and compromise safety.

Key warning signs indicate that hardware may be weakened and should be removed from service for repair or replacement. These include:

Cracks: Inspect closely, as some cracks can be very fine and difficult to see.

Missing or Damaged Parts: Ensure components like safety catches on hooks, nuts on cable clips, and cotter pins in shackle pins are present and functional.
Stretching or Distortion: Check hooks for throat opening, shackles for elongation, and chain links for signs of stretching or distortion.

Stripped Threads: Inspect turnbuckles, threaded shackles, and cable clips for any damage to threads.

Excessive Wear, Nicks, Gouges: Any significant material loss or damage can reduce capacity.
Heat Damage or Weld Splatter: This can alter material properties.
Chemical Damage or Corrosion: Pitting or discoloration can indicate weakening.

According to ASME B30 standards and many local regulations:

Pre-Use (Daily): A visual inspection by the user or designated person before each shift or use.

Periodic: A documented, thorough inspection by a qualified person at regular intervals. This is at least annually, but may be more frequent (quarterly or monthly) depending on the severity of service, usage frequency, and environmental conditions.

Our inspections are conducted in accordance with the latest applicable ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) standards (e.g., ASME B30.9 for slings, B30.10 for hooks, B30.26 for rigging hardware), as well as relevant provincial/federal regulations and LEEA guidelines. We ensure your equipment meets or exceeds all required safety benchmarks.
