The hand chain is the operator-driven chain that the operator pulls to actuate the hoist mechanism during lifting and lowering operations. By pulling down on one side of the hand chain loop, the operator drives the hand chain wheel, which transmits force through the hoist gear train to the load sheave, raising or lowering the load chain and attached load.
