The Petzl SWIVEL OPEN is a gated swivel with sealed ball bearings, designed for rope access, rescue, and work-at-height applications where rope twist management is critical. Swivels are used in rope systems to allow free rotation between two connection points, preventing the buildup of rope twist that can occur during descent, ascent, or load rotation. The SWIVEL OPEN's gated design allows it to be inserted into a system mid-line without requiring the rope or connector to be threaded through — the gate opens to accept the connection and closes to secure it, significantly speeding up rigging and system assembly.

The sealed ball bearing mechanism provides smooth, low-friction rotation under load, ensuring the swivel functions effectively even when loaded with the weight of a worker or rescue victim.
